International Driving Permit
The International Driving Permit (IDP) is an international document legislated by the United Nations (UN) according to the International Conventions on Road Traffic, signed by most countries worldwide.
This document (the International Driving Permit) allows its holder to drive outside their country of residence, as it is issued based on the local driving license.
Therefore, the International Driving Permit is not valid for driving in the driver's country of residence.
Libya's membership in the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the Alliance Internationale de Tourisme (AIT), the Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK), the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), and the International Road Transport Union (IRU), along with other international federations, grants Libyan citizens and residents the right to drive in foreign countries (signatories to the convention) after obtaining the IDP from the Libyan Automobile and Touring Club, which is a member of the International Automobile Federation.
The International Driving Permit is valid for only one year from the date of issue.
